Writing Workshops
The Sakura Series’ workshops and open mics provide a space for artists to explore their identities and express their stories through generative writing workshops and performance. Each of these events are centered around themes that reflect cultural heritage months and socially relevant topics, bringing intention and purpose to every writing session. Through engaging prompts and discussions, these gatherings foster creativity, connection, and the building of artistic networks that extend beyond the room.

A political writing workshop and open mic that invites participants to reflect and fight for the world around them through poetry and storytelling. This generative space is rooted in truth-telling and resistance. Whether you’re responding to current events or connecting the now with ancestral memory, this workshop will help you put your politics on the page. The event will begin with a guided writing session and followed by an open mic where attendees can share new or existing work that speaks to the moment. Throughout the event, local organizations will be tabling and speaking about their missions offering ways to support, get involved, and stay connected. Art is protest, and so is showing up for our communities!
